ABSTRACT

Experiment to investigate the effects of inorganic and organic fertilizers on growth and yield of Basella alba(Indian spinach) was conducted at the Horticultural nursery, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state between the months of February-May 2011. Three fertilizer sources (NPK 20-10-10 and Tithonia based compost at rate of 250kg per hectare, poultry manure at rate of 3 tons per hectare) were used. Treatments were arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and replicated three times. Data were collected on vine length, number of leaves, vine girth and leaf area at 2WAT and thereafter one week interval. Final harvested yield was done 8WAT. The results show that fertilizers had no significant effect on vine length, leaf area and vine girth but had a significant effect on number of leaves and harvested yield.NPK 20-10-10 ,was observed to be better for growth and yield of Basella alba.

Overview: This project work was carried out to determine the effect of different spacing on the growth and yield of celosia argentea. The parameters considered for the experiment include plant height, leaf length, numbers of leaves and population of perforated leaves per plant, taken at 3, 5 and 7 weeks after planting. It was observed that the... Continue Reading
ABSTRACT The effect of spent engine oil on soil properties and growth of Spinach (Spinacia olereacea) was investigated. Five treatments (0, 20, 40, 60, 80)ml of the spent oil were applied to soil in perforated poly bags with Spinach strands at four weeks after stabilization. Soil analysis showed that spent engine oil had no effect on both the pH... Continue Reading
